I am a Vancouver Island artist working in charcoal, graphite, pastel, oil and acrylic. My artwork can be classified as "genre painting" -- portraying people being who they are and doing what they do, however and wherever they do it. (more)
"Collapse" is a recently completed painting that has been accepted into Federation of Canadian Artists “Painting on the Edge” international juried exhibition. The Exhibition runs from July 13 to August 2nd, 2020.
“Collapse”, for me, is a departure in style and subject matter because of the dynamic quality of movement, drama and multiple layers of meaning. Where my paintings generally celebrate the hopeful qualities of humanity, such as our cooperative nature, this painting reflects the other side of the coin — the competitive instincts we nurture.
"Journal" was recently sold at the Sooke Fine Arts Show (July 24 to August 3). The scene was captured in Kamloops following a day of moving furniture for an uncle. The sun was low in the sky and my brother-in-law was filling out his daily journal, as he has done for decades. The tranquility of the scene, with its dramatic backlighting, wood surfaces, and muted colours started out as a study in greys for me, but gradually transformed into an intimate portrait of the man, his journal, and a contemplation of our desire to capture time.
